MUSEUMS

Coruña has three Scientific Museums attached to the city council (DOMUS, CASA DE LAS CIENCIAS, AQUARIUM FINISTERRAE) as well as another one directly under the Spanish Government (MUNCYT).


DOMUS. It was the first interactive museum dedicated to the human being in the world and it's one of the three Scientific Museums of A Coruña.

CASA DE LAS CIENCIAS. It is an interactive museum with a planetarium, where you can learn to explore the sky by yourself, and three floors with different exhibitions about physics, biology and astronomy.

AQUARIUM FINISTERRAE. Also known as Casa de los Peces (Fish's house) is dedicated to  the ocean and to marine life (auctoctonous species). It has four halls with different exhibitions with 338 different species.

MUNCYT – MUSEO NACIONAL DE CIENCIA Y TECNOLOGÍA. This is one of the branches of the national network of museums exhibiting technological advances and curiosities. Many activities and talks are also organised for the dissemination of knowledge.

MUSEO DE BELAS ARTES DA CORUÑA. It mainly exhibits paintings including some works by Rubens.

MUSEO ARQUEOLÓXICO - CASTELO DE SAN ANTÓN. Originally on an island and now linked to the mainland, the museum is located in a medieval prison-fortress. It contains the archaeological findings and gold treasures of the ancient Celtic inhabitants of the Castro de Elviña, 4 km away from the city centre (which can be visited on Saturdays).

MUSEO HISTÓRICO MILITAR DE A CORUÑA. The Military Museum is located in a place of special historical resonances, occupying part of the building site of the former Convent of San Francisco.

CASA MUSEO PICASSO. As his father was a teacher in A Coruña, Picasso lived on the second floor of this house between 1891 and 1895. At the Casa Picasso 33 works have been reproduced, four of which are by the father and the others by the young Picasso. These works have been integrated into the decoration of the different rooms of the house, except in the bedrooms.

MEGA – MUNDO ESTRELLA GALICIA. This is the first museum in Spain dedicated to beer. They organise guided tours and beer tasting sessions.

Military batteries of the Mount of San Pedro: A 90-minute tour of the remains of the military garrison of the Mount of San Pedro. Fridays at 16.30, departing from the information post of the Mount of San Pedro. Free. (Spanish, Galician and English).
